Gemmological Institute of India (GII) organised its 42nd Convocation on 29th November, 2024 Shri Vipul Shah, Chairman, GJEPC and Dr. M.D. Sastry, Former Head, R&D, GII were Chief Guest and Guest of Honour respectively

Gemmological Institute of India (GII) is known for its education programs, besides being a reliable Gem testing institute with internationally acclaimed R&D contributions. It is a matter of pride for GII that it has been contributing to education and training over five decades since its inception.  Diploma in Gemmology and Diamond Grading Courses are being conducted on regular basis. Hundreds of aspiring gemologists and future diamond traders obtained diplomas in gemmology and diamond grading. These courses are designed to cover fundamental aspects of gems and diamonds, mining to marketing, characterization,  use of advanced instrumental techniques, etc. GII diploma courses and training methods are well known and particularly hand-on training provided for laboratory experiments is second to none. It gives trainees with an opportunity to handle gem related equipment, rare samples and standards. They receive basic training to qualify gems, diamonds and studded jewellery

42nd convocation was held on 29th November, 2024 in Garware Club House, Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai – 400020. As is the practice, this convocation platform has been used to present GII Star Mitra Awards to our valuable clients.

The function started by rendering National Anthem.

Dr. A V R Reddy, CEO, GII has welcomed Chief Guest Shri Vipul Shah, Chairman, GJEPC, Guest of Honour, Dr. M.D. Sastry, Former Head, R&D, GII, Shri Anupbhai Zaveri, Managing Trustee, GII, Shri Shripalkumar Desai, Shri Arvindbhai Parikh, Shri Nitinbhai Pachchigar and other Trustees of GII, invitees, colleagues and students.

Shri Vipul Shah, Chairman, GJEPC is a diamantaire of International repute. His knowledge and wisdom on current business trends of Diamond Industry and future needs of the diamond market are of high pedigree. Suffice to say that Vipulbhai is a great visionary with matching acumen and organizational skills. He thanked him for accepting to deliver the convocation address. Dr. M.D. Sastry, Guest of Honour, a renowned Scientist and Former Head, R&D, GII has contributed immensely to GII name and fame in Research. He was responsible for fabricating GII Qchk Machine. He thanked Dr. Sastry for accepting to share his experience with students and employees.

Shri Anup Zaveri, Managing Trustee, GII in his presidential address thanked Vipul Shah & Dr. Sastry for accepting our invitation. He congratulated all the students who got the diplomas and merit award winners, as well as GII Star Mitra Awardees. He emphasized the need for quality training in the current scenario of G&J industry and appreciated the GII efforts to include the hands-on training. He welcomed fresh diploma holders in G&J trade and urged them to be the flag bearers of GII and spread the knowledge of gemmology among the community.

Shri Vipul Shah in his address congratulated all the students and awardees. He was very happy that GII has been providing education and training of global standards. This helps in bridging the gap between customers awareness to confidence to choose the right goods. As G&J trade and industry are of dynamic nature, GII is expected to play a crucial role in harmonizing the testing methods with the global acceptance levels. He appreciated the faculty and employees in imbibing high standards among the students and younger colleagues.

 

 

Dr. Sastry was overwhelmed by the warm welcome and appreciation he received from Employees, Trustees, Students and Invitees.

He explained the genesis of R&D in GII and his contributions. He was very happy to share that two of the most important contributions of GII, 1) Developing Qchk machine and 2) Carrying out the testing of the precious goods of Tirupati Tirumala Devasthanas (TTD), Tirupati.

Shri Vipul Shah presented diploma certificates as well as merit certificates to the students. Shri Anup Zaveri presented the GII Star Mitra Awards to the winners who are valuable customers of GII. Shri S. N. Desai, Trustee proposed vote of thanks. He shared with the audience about his role in bringing Dr. M.D. Sastry & Dr. AVR Reddy to GII from Bhabha Atomic Research Center (BARC). He explained the important role of R&D in obtaining the GII recognition as Scientific Industrial Research Organization (SIRO) from the Government of India. On his own behalf he congratulated all the merit scholars, GII star Mitra Awardees and GII employees.

 

 

 

Shri Arvindbhai and Shri Nitinbhai felicitated Vipulbhai and Dr. Sastry respectively and they shared their views with the audience. Shri Zubin Lakdawala thanked GII authorities for bestowing special appreciation award on completion of 4 decades of teaching in GII. Two of the Diploma holders expressed on behalf of students, their appreciation to the education department of GII.

Mrs. Silvia Sequeira, Mr. Kirti Das, Mrs. Manisha Pawar, Miss. Shruti Parikh, Mrs. Pooja Gosavi and other team members have organized the programme. Both Silvia Sequeira and Anik Goswami anchored the function.
